Dirt is the Color

(Kristina Stykos)
My songs often catch threads of feelings I'm having in relation to someone in my life, and ride them to a deeper place of dream or unconscious memory. Sometimes the books I'm reading give me clues. I think we've all lived many lives. dirt is the color
that I can feel
when I dig down to meet you
it’s not good fortune
it’s something real
a solid ground agreed to

take me home, my love
take me home
while we still remember
how to go
rise with me at dawn
in the sparkling snow
before the centuries unfold

I saw you broken
in a driving rain
I was forbidden to help you
your land was wasted
your fight in vain
I would return to find you

take me home…

tough like a callus
strong like a weed
Your life is hidden inside you
My face is buried
against the wind we ride
One horse and
nothing to live on

take me home…

River Go By

(Kristina Stykos)
Ever since Joni Mitchell's song California, featured "sitting in a park in Paris France", that lure of Paris has been weighing on me to be used for my own purposes. Thank-you Thomas. Thomas, all the
streets are wet
It’s been some time
since we last met
I see us brooding
in my mind
In Paris drinking
cheap red wine
talking long into the night
thick as thieves
in the dimming light
You and I
- and love makes three
you’ve held your ground
like a rock for me

River go by river go by river go
River go by river go by river go by

heard you say
I’m no ones fool
just takes one
to break that rule
years go by
- I don’t ask much
but where the softness

of your touch
in this rain
i guess it feels all right
a frozen bell
strikes midnight
and love goes round
but awful slow
like a wagon wheel
on a muddy road

River go by river go by river go
River go by river go by river go by

Thomas, watch
the morning rise
you’ll come and go
and dry your eyes
you’ll drink your coffee
with a smoke
and fill my cup back up
with hope

River go by river go by river go
River go by river go by river go by
